An army officer was martyred in a clash with terrorists in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. The army had launched an operation against the terrorists yesterday evening.
The encounter took place in the Assar area of Doda, just a day before the country celebrates Independence Day. During the operation, the security forces discovered a terrorist hideout and recovered an American-made M4 rifle, ammunition, and other supplies. Sources say that the security forces had received information about the presence of four Pakistani terrorists and started the operation in the evening.
In a separate anti-terrorism operation in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, the security forces noticed some suspicious activity early Tuesday morning in the Ahlan Gagarmandu forest. They fired shots to investigate. Additional security personnel were called in to assist in the search for the terrorists hiding in the forest area.
This terrorist attack in the Jammu region occurred just one day before Independence Day celebrations. In response, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting to review the security situation, with senior officials including Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in attendance.
