MS Dhoni May be Treated as Uncapped Player IPL 2025: From the early seasons of IPL until 2021, there was a rule that if a player had retired for 5 years, they would be moved from the list of capped players to the uncapped players’ list. The BCCI is now considering bringing this rule back.
There are still several months left before the 18th season of IPL begins, but preparations have already started across the country. Amid the new rules being prepared for IPL 2025, a big news has emerged. Reports suggest that BCCI is thinking of bringing back an old rule. If this happens, fans may get to see their favorite star, MS Dhoni, participating in IPL once again. However, it is not confirmed if this rule will be implemented.
What is the rule?
From the early seasons of IPL until 2021, there was a rule that if a player had retired for 5 years, they would be moved from the list of capped players to the uncapped players’ list.
During this period, since no franchise used this special rule, it was removed. However, during a recent meeting, there was discussion about reintroducing this rule into the IPL.
If this rule is implemented, Dhoni would be placed in the list of uncapped players. This would also result in a reduction in his earnings. According to the rule, uncapped players can receive a maximum of ₹4 crore.
This means if Dhoni plays in the IPL as an uncapped player, he could earn up to ₹4 crore. Last season, CSK retained him for ₹12 crore.
Dhoni has Stepped Down from Captaincy
Before the start of IPL 2024, Dhoni handed over the captaincy to young batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad. Under his leadership, the team’s performance last season was mixed, and they didn’t make it to the playoffs.
However, Dhoni’s performance was commendable last year. He shined not only in wicketkeeping but also with the bat. Last season, Dhoni was often seen batting in the lower order. Despite that, he scored 161 runs with a striking rate of 220.55.
