Glasgow, Scotland: Team India begins its campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Friday with athletes competing across gymnastics, swimming, para swimming, para powerlifting, lawn bowls and boxing. Several Indian stars will be in action as the country aims to continue its strong performances at the Commonwealth Games.
The 2026 edition officially got underway with a vibrant opening ceremony at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, where Olympic medal winners Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain led the Indian contingent as flag bearers.
This year’s Games feature around 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations, competing in 10 sports across four venues. Glasgow stepped in as host after Australia’s Victoria withdrew due to rising costs, with organisers opting for a compact and cost-effective edition by using existing infrastructure.
