Glasgow, Scotland: Team India begins its campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Friday with athletes competing across gymnastics, swimming, para swimming, para powerlifting, lawn bowls and boxing. Several Indian stars will be in action as the country aims to continue its strong performances at the Commonwealth Games.

The 2026 edition officially got underway with a vibrant opening ceremony at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, where Olympic medal winners Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain led the Indian contingent as flag bearers.

This year’s Games feature around 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations, competing in 10 sports across four venues. Glasgow stepped in as host after Australia’s Victoria withdrew due to rising costs, with organisers opting for a compact and cost-effective edition by using existing infrastructure.

India Schedule – July 24, Commonwealth Games 2026

2:30 PM – Gymnastics

India’s campaign begins with the men’s team and individual qualification events featuring:

  • Tapeshwarnath Das
  • Swathish KP
  • Tapan Mohanty
  • Yogeshwar Singh

3:40 PM – Para Swimming

RVVBK Budigina competes in the men’s S13 100m freestyle heats. If he qualifies, he will return later in the day for the final.

3:56 PM – Swimming

Srihari Nataraj takes part in the men’s 50m backstroke heats, aiming to secure a place in the evening semi-finals.

5:40 PM – Para Powerlifting

Ashok Kumar Malik and Parmjeet Kumar compete in the men’s lightweight medal event.

7:24 PM – Para Powerlifting

Jaspreet Kaur and Suman Devi represent India in the women’s lightweight medal event.

7:30 PM – Lawn Bowls

The Indian women’s pairs team of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki faces South Africa’s Thabelo Muvhango and Jacqui van Rensburg in their second sectional-round match.

10:00 PM – Gymnastics

India competes in the men’s team final, with medals at stake.

10:30 PM – Lawn Bowls

Putul Sonowal faces Cecil Alexander of the Falkland Islands in the men’s singles sectional-round encounter.

10:40 PM – Para Powerlifting

Kasthuri Rajamani competes in the women’s heavyweight medal event.

11:00 PM – Boxing

Jadumani Singh begins his campaign in the men’s 55kg category against Scotland’s Aaron Cullen in the Round of 32.

12:29 AM (July 25) – Para Powerlifting

Jhandu Kumar and Sudhir compete in the men’s heavyweight medal event to conclude India’s schedule for the day.

India Eyes Strong Start

India has consistently been among the top-performing nations at the Commonwealth Games over the past two decades. With experienced names and promising young athletes competing across multiple disciplines, the contingent will be looking to begin the Glasgow campaign on a positive note and add early medals to its tally.
