Delhi batter Priyansh Arya delivered a remarkable performance in the Ranji Trophy 2026, scoring 199 runs against Gujarat on the opening day of their second-round match. However, he narrowly missed out on a double century after being bowled by Manan Hingrajia late in the day’s play.

Delhi finished Day 1 at 381/4 at the Palam B Ground on October 18, with captain Ayush Badoni unbeaten on 115. The two batters shared a massive partnership that helped Delhi recover from their disappointing start to the season.

Priyansh Arya Shines With a Brilliant 199

Priyansh Arya was the standout performer for Delhi, producing an impressive innings in just his third first-class appearance. His 199-run knock featured 24 fours and six sixes, putting Gujarat’s bowling attack under sustained pressure.

Arya had entered the match with 131 runs from his first three first-class innings and a previous best score of 82. His latest performance marked a significant step forward in his red-ball career.

Known for his aggressive batting in limited-overs cricket, Arya has also attracted attention for his performances in the Indian Premier League, where he has scored a century for Punjab Kings.

The Delhi batter appeared set to reach the 200-run milestone, but Hingrajia dismissed him for 199 with seven overs remaining before stumps. His innings ended with Delhi at 376/4.

Ayush Badoni Completes His Fifth First-Class Hundred

Delhi captain Ayush Badoni ensured that the team continued to build its total after Arya’s dismissal. He remained unbeaten on 115 off 149 balls, striking 11 fours and two sixes.

Badoni and Arya added 234 runs for the fourth wicket, forming the backbone of Delhi’s innings. Their partnership shifted the momentum firmly in the home side’s favour.

The century was Badoni’s fifth in first-class cricket and provided Delhi with a strong platform to post a substantial first-innings total.

For Gujarat, Harshal Patel was the most successful bowler, taking two wickets for 66 runs. Gujarat managed four dismissals during the day, including one run-out.

Delhi Aim to Recover From Opening-Match Defeat

Delhi began their second-round fixture looking to bounce back after losing their opening Ranji Trophy match against Bengal in Kalyani. In that game, Delhi were dismissed for 240 on the first day.

Their batting display against Gujarat has offered a timely response. With 381 runs already on the board and six wickets remaining, Delhi will look to extend their advantage when play resumes.

Gujarat, meanwhile, will need to make early breakthroughs to prevent Delhi from building an even bigger first-innings total.

Shubman Gill Dismissed for One Against Chhattisgarh

In another Ranji Trophy fixture, India batter Shubman Gill was dismissed for just one run while representing Punjab against Chhattisgarh in New Chandigarh.

Gill was playing his first Ranji Trophy match of the season after missing Punjab’s opening game against Assam. Chhattisgarh bowler Ajay Mandal sent him back after facing five deliveries.

Punjab recovered through Uday Saharan, who scored an unbeaten 106, and Prabhsimran Singh, who contributed 62. Punjab ended the day at 269/4.

Gill is also expected to lead India in the upcoming Test series and the first three ODIs against New Zealand next month, as stated in the match report.

Rinku Singh Scores Another Century for Uttar Pradesh

Rinku Singh continued his excellent form in the Ranji Trophy, scoring an unbeaten 118 for Uttar Pradesh against Goa.

After making 112 against Bihar in the previous round, Rinku produced another important innings despite losing partners at the other end. Uttar Pradesh were eventually bowled out for 202.

Rinku shared a 65-run final-wicket partnership with Vansh Chaudhary, who scored four runs from 26 balls. The stand helped Uttar Pradesh recover from 137/9.

Goa’s Yash Kasvankar claimed five wickets for 86 runs, while his team reached 43 without loss by the end of the day’s play.

What Lies Ahead for Delhi?

Delhi will look to capitalise on their strong position against Gujarat when the second day begins. Badoni remains at the crease after completing his century, giving the team an opportunity to push beyond the 400-run mark.

Although Arya missed a double century by the narrowest of margins, his innings and Badoni’s contribution have given Delhi a strong foundation as they chase their first win of the Ranji Trophy season.
