Indian cricket could soon witness another Dravid in national colours. Anvay Dravid, the younger son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, has been included in the India Under-19 team for the upcoming One-Day series against Sri Lanka.

The selection committee unveiled the squads for India’s youth tour of Sri Lanka, where the team will compete in three One-Day matches and two multi-day encounters. The tour is scheduled to begin on July 4 in Hambantota.

Anvay, who plays as a wicketkeeper-batter, has been picked in the One-Day squad following a series of impressive performances at the domestic level. The 17-year-old will compete alongside Rajat Baghel for wicketkeeping responsibilities during the series.

Domestic Success Opens National Team Door

The young Karnataka cricketer has steadily built a reputation in age-group cricket through consistent batting displays. His recent performances in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy played a major role in earning him national recognition.

Leading Karnataka’s Under-19 side in the tournament, Anvay delivered several valuable contributions with the bat. He accumulated over 200 runs during the competition and showcased his ability to handle pressure with a match-winning unbeaten knock against Himachal Pradesh.

His rise through the ranks has been closely followed by cricket observers, especially given his family’s rich cricketing background. However, selectors have rewarded him based on merit and recent performances rather than his famous surname.

Opportunity to Build Future U-19 World Cup Squad

The Sri Lanka tour is expected to serve as an important platform for identifying players who could form the core of India’s future Under-19 World Cup squad. Since Anvay remains eligible for upcoming youth World Cup competitions, this tour offers him a valuable chance to gain international experience.

While his elder brother Samit Dravid has featured in domestic age-group cricket, Anvay becomes the first among Rahul Dravid’s sons to receive a call-up to an Indian national youth team.

Leadership Group Announced

Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan will captain the India U-19 side during the ODI series, while Lakshya Raichandani has been appointed vice-captain.

The Indian team is expected to travel to Sri Lanka later this month before beginning the limited-overs leg of the tour.
