The internal turmoil within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) deepened on Wednesday as several prominent Members of Parliament were reportedly linked to an expanding dissident group that has raised questions about the party’s leadership and future direction.
The names being associated with the rebel faction include Yusuf Pathan, Abu Taher Khan, Partha Bhowmik, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Bapi Haldar, Saayoni Ghosh, Rachana Banerjee, Asit Mal, K Rahman, Sharmila Sarkar, Mitali Bag, Shatrughan Sinha, Kalipada Soren, June Malia, Mala Roy, Dev Adhikari, Satabdi Roy, Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia and Arup Chakrabarty.
The development has intensified political uncertainty within the party, which is already facing challenges following recent electoral setbacks and growing dissatisfaction among some leaders.
Resignations Add to Pressure on TMC
The crisis gained momentum after Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev announced her resignation from the party. Her exit came shortly after senior parliamentarian Sukhendu Sekhar Roy also stepped down from both the Trinamool Congress and the Rajya Sabha.
Both leaders cited differences with the party leadership, sparking fresh speculation about internal divisions and the possibility of more defections in the coming weeks.
Political observers believe the consecutive resignations have exposed deeper concerns within the organisation, raising questions about unity ahead of future political battles.
Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Emerges as Key Rebel Voice
At the centre of the ongoing rebellion is Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who has become one of the most vocal critics of the party’s current functioning. Earlier this week, she claimed that nearly 20 TMC MPs were interested in aligning with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), a statement that triggered fresh debate within political circles.
Dastidar has argued that many party leaders have become increasingly frustrated with decision-making processes and the overall direction of the organisation. According to the rebel camp, concerns have been building for several years, eventually leading to the current wave of dissent.
Uncertainty Over TMC’s Future Course
As more MPs are reportedly being linked to the dissident faction, concerns are growing over the stability of the Trinamool Congress and its ability to contain the rebellion. The party leadership has yet to fully address the widening divide, while political rivals continue to closely monitor the situation.
With senior leaders exiting and internal disagreements becoming more public, the coming weeks could prove crucial for the party as it attempts to maintain unity and prevent further political fallout.
