Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus will be the chief advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh. The coordinators of the ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’ have announced this on Tuesday. According to the report of the ‘Daily Star’ newspaper, Nahid Islam, one of the main coordinators of the movement, said in a video shared on social media on Tuesday morning that Professor Yunus has agreed to take up this important responsibility to save the country on the call of the student community.
Nahid Islam said this
Nahid said, “It took us 24 hours to announce the outline for the interim government. However, in view of the emergency situation, we are announcing it now.” Nahid was accompanied by two other coordinators. He said, “We have decided that an interim government will be formed, in which internationally renowned Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus will be the chief advisor. His acceptance is widespread.”
Order given to release former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia
Just hours before this announcement, Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin had announced that an interim government would be formed as soon as possible after dissolving the Parliament. Shahabuddin said in his address to the nation broadcast on television late Monday night that he has accepted Sheikh Hasina’s resignation from the post of Prime Minister and has also ordered the release of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is under house arrest after being convicted in several cases.
Demand placed on Bangladesh President to form interim government soon
Nahid urged the President to take steps as soon as possible to form an interim government under the leadership of Dr. Yunus. He said that the names of other members of the interim government would be announced soon. Regarding the widespread violence, he said that this violence is being done by “deposed fascists and their allies” to fail the revolution. He said, “Since there is chaos in the country and people’s lives are in danger, we urge the President to take immediate and effective steps to restore law and order in the country and the freedom-seeking students will also come out on the streets to assist the law enforcement forces.”
More than 300 people died in anti-government protests
Nahid said, “No other government will be accepted except the government proposed by the students. As we have said, no military government or government supported by the army or a government of fascists will be accepted.” Chaos spread in Bangladesh on Monday when Sheikh Hasina suddenly resigned from the post of Prime Minister and left the country in a military plane. As soon as the news of Hasina leaving the country spread, hundreds of people broke into her residence and vandalized and looted it. More than 300 people have died in the last 15 days in anti-government protests in the country.
