In IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced a tough defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Kolkata won this match by 8 wickets. It was the first time this season that Mahendra Singh Dhoni played as captain. After the loss, Dhoni spoke about the reasons behind the defeat.
Dhoni said, “We didn’t score enough runs. When you lose too many wickets early, the pressure increases. Our team also failed to build partnerships. Even making 60 runs with this batting line-up becomes difficult if there’s no partnership.”
Where Did CSK Go Wrong?
Dhoni clearly mentioned that the team failed to build partnerships, which became the main reason for the defeat.
- Opener Rachin Ravindra scored just 4 runs, and Devon Conway made 12 runs.
- Rahul Tripathi got out after making 16 runs.
- Vijay Shankar was the highest scorer with 29 runs.
- Ravichandran Ashwin scored 1 run, and Ravindra Jadeja couldn’t open his account.
This poor batting performance cost CSK the match.
KKR Created a New Record
With this win, KKR made a new IPL record. They achieved a target of 104 runs in just 10.1 overs, making it the third-fastest chase of 100+ runs in IPL history.
Earlier:
- In 2015, RCB chased 112 runs in 9.4 overs.
- Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also won a match in 9.4 overs.
Now, KKR joins the list with a 10.1 over chase.
This match was a clear example of how important good partnerships and strong batting performance are in T20 cricket.
