According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake of 4.5 magnitude hit Tajikistan on the evening of Sunday, 13 April 2025. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the ground.
NCS shared the details on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
“Earthquake Magnitude: 4.5, Date: 13 April 2025, Time: 8:04 PM (IST), Location: Tajikistan, Depth: 10 km.”
Two More Earthquakes in Tajikistan
As per the report by the National Center for Seismology, two more earthquakes were recorded in Tajikistan on the same day. The first one had a magnitude of 6.1, and the second measured 3.9 on the Richter scale. Both occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to the UN Development Coordination Office, Tajikistan often faces natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, and landslides, and weak communities in the region live in constant danger. Climate change is making these disasters even more severe. Every year, thousands of people lose their homes, and the country’s economy also suffers. Around 1.3% of Tajikistan’s GDP is affected by such disasters.
Earthquakes Felt in Other Countries on Saturday
On Saturday afternoon, strong earthquake tremors were felt in India and neighboring countries. Areas like Kashmir in India, along with Pakistan, Tajikistan, Tonga, and Papua New Guinea, experienced quakes. The magnitudes ranged from 4.0 to 6.0 on the Richter scale. The tremors in Tajikistan and Pakistan were quite strong, while Tonga and Papua New Guinea experienced earthquakes of magnitude 6.0.
In Pakistan, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck on Saturday afternoon. Its epicenter was near Rawalpindi, close to Islamabad. Tremors were felt in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), and cities like Attock, Chakwal, Peshawar, Mardan, and Shabqadar.
Earth Continues to Shake in the Region
In the last few weeks, several countries in Asia have felt frequent earthquakes. On 28 March, a massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, causing widespread destruction. Its effects were felt in many neighboring countries too. Since then, multiple tremors have been reported across the region, raising concerns about continuous seismic activity.
