Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had requested that AAP Minister Atishi hoist the flag on Independence Day instead of himself. However, the General Administration Department (GAD) has rejected this request. The department’s response makes it clear that the letter sent by Gopal Rai regarding this matter holds no significance. The department stated that there are already established rules for Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations, and no changes will be made to them. Preparations for August 15 are ongoing at Chhatrasal Stadium, and the decision of who will hoist the flag will now be made by the LG office.
Gopal Rai’s Letter
Gopal Rai had written a letter stating that he had met with CM Kejriwal, who expressed his wish for Atishi to hoist the flag on Independence Day this year. In response, the GAD clarified that no written or verbal orders can be issued by CM Kejriwal from jail, making the request invalid. The CM’s office was informed about the Independence Day program, but the response was that the CM is currently in jail.
Department’s Response
The General Administration Department stated in its reply that the matter of who will hoist the flag in Delhi has been brought to the attention of higher authorities, and they are awaiting a response. This means that the LG office has been consulted, and it is likely that the final decision will follow the recommendations of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Ultimately, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs will decide who will hoist the flag in Delhi on August 15.
