iOS 18 Expected to Bring Massive Visual Overhaul and AI Features

Reports suggest that Apple’s iOS 18, slated for release in the second half of 2024, could introduce a significant visual overhaul to the iPhone and iPad user interface (UI), along with new AI features integrated into the system and Siri voice assistant. According to sources cited by The Verifier, iOS 18 might draw inspiration from visionOS, Apple’s operating system for the Apple Vision Pro.

The rumored redesign would incorporate translucent UI elements and blur effects, reminiscent of visionOS, which powers Apple’s spatial computer and supports augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) modes. Apple plans to refresh built-in apps like Safari, as well as system menus and popups, with this new design, following the introduction of similar design elements in the Apple TV+ app with the tvOS 17.2 update.

Although The Verifier’s track record for accurate leaks is mixed, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also hinted at iOS 18 being a substantial update. Apple has yet to confirm any details about iOS 18, but typically unveils its upcoming software updates, including iOS, at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. This is when the tech giant showcases advancements in software for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch, along with updates to its Xcode development environment.
