Elon Musk is often in the news, and now his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), has faced trouble in Brazil. The Brazilian Supreme Court has permanently banned X in the country. Not only has the app been banned, but there’s also a hefty fine for downloading it. If someone uses a VPN to access X, they will also face a heavy penalty.

What’s the Issue?

The ban on X is due to the spread of fake news. The court believes that X has a lot of fake news that misleads users, and these fake stories were spreading without any verification. Because of this, the Brazilian Supreme Court decided to take strict action and banned X in the country.

Justice Di Morais of Brazil stated in his decision that the court orders the platform to be banned. Earlier, the court had given Elon Musk 24 hours to appoint a legal representative from the company in Brazil. However, X did not comply with the order, saying that their legal officer was being threatened with jail, so they would not appoint anyone.

The Penalty

The Brazilian Supreme Federal Court has announced that X is banned throughout the country. According to reports, anyone found using X can be fined 50,000 Reais. Additionally, using a VPN or trying to access the app secretly will also result in a heavy fine. As a result, X is now completely banned in Brazil, and people there cannot use the app anymore.
