In a significant cyber attack, the Bangladesh Post websites have been taken offline by the notorious hacking group, Hacktivist Vanguard. The affected websites, bdpost.gov.bd and bangladeshpost.gov.bd, were defaced and rendered inaccessible. Hacktivist Vanguard carried out the attack in solidarity with the ongoing student protests in Bangladesh.
Students across Bangladesh are demanding an end to a quota system that reserves up to 30% of government jobs for relatives of veterans who fought in Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971. The students argue that the system is discriminatory and disproportionately benefits supporters of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They are calling for a merit-based system to replace the current quotas.
The protests have escalated into violent clashes, resulting in at least 25 deaths and hundreds of injuries. Confrontations between students, police, and government supporters began at Dhaka University and have since spread to other cities. Protesters accuse the police and government supporters of attacking them, leading to the ongoing violence and bloodshed. The students’ calls for reform are rooted in their belief that the current system perpetuates inequality and unfairly favors certain groups.
The hacking operation was executed by a member of Hacktivist Vanguard known as INDIX FALCON. The attack has gained significant attention online, with the hashtag #FUCKYOUBDGOV trending as a result. Through this cyber attack, Hacktivist Vanguard aims to bring global attention to the students’ struggle and the violence they face in their fight for a fairer system.
