Indian External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar faced protests from Khalistan supporters in London, leading to a major security concern. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly condemned the incident, calling it a provocative act and a misuse of democratic freedom.
India’s Response to the Security Breach
MEA issued a statement saying, “We have seen the footage of the security breach during EAM’s visit to the UK. We strongly condemn the provocative actions of this small group of separatists and extremists.”
India also urged the UK government to fulfill its diplomatic responsibilities and prevent such incidents in the future.
Khalistan Supporters Gathered Outside Chatham House
The incident took place on March 5 when Jaishankar arrived at Chatham House in London for an event. Khalistan supporters were already waiting outside, carrying yellow flags and loudspeakers while chanting pro-Khalistan slogans.
When Jaishankar left the venue, one protester ran towards his car and tore an Indian flag in front of the police officers. The police immediately detained the person.
Jaishankar’s Statement on Kashmir
During his speech at Chatham House, Jaishankar also spoke about Kashmir. He stated, “We have resolved most issues in Jammu and Kashmir. The only thing left is the return of the part that Pakistan illegally occupied. Once that happens, Kashmir will be fully resolved.”
Jaishankar’s Europe Visit Schedule
Jaishankar is on a Europe tour from March 4 to March 9. During his UK visit, he met British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and discussed various bilateral issues.
After the UK visit, he will travel to Ireland for further diplomatic meetings.
