The wave of layoffs in the tech industry is still ongoing. After Amazon, Microsoft has now started letting go of employees based on their performance. Reports suggest that workers who did not meet company expectations are being asked to leave.
No Compensation for Affected Employees
According to media reports, Microsoft has informed the affected employees that their access to office systems will be immediately revoked after receiving the termination notice. They will not be allowed to continue working. Some employees confirmed that they were not offered any compensation upon termination, and their healthcare benefits were also stopped.
Besides performance-based layoffs, Microsoft is also cutting jobs in its security, gaming, devices, and sales teams to reduce costs.
Reapplying Will Be Difficult
The termination letter clearly states that if any terminated employees wish to reapply, their past performance and reasons for termination will be reviewed. This may create hurdles for employees planning to rejoin the company.
Microsoft’s approach to layoffs has become more aggressive this time. Even senior employees are being affected, as performance is now being evaluated at all levels.
Although Microsoft may consider rehiring in the future, the current layoffs are part of its cost-cutting strategy. As of now, the company employs over 228,000 full-time staff worldwide.
