In connection with the vandalism at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, three police officers have been suspended. Sources reveal that evidence of negligence has been found, leading to this action. The incident took place on the night of August 14, when a mob attacked and caused damage to the hospital.
Former RG Kar College Principal, Sandeep Ghosh, is facing corruption charges. Additionally, the CBI is continuing to question him regarding the rape case involving a woman at RG Kar Medical College.
The Supreme Court has raised concerns about the hospital administration’s negligence in this matter. Questions are being asked as to why the hospital administration did not take immediate action. This issue might be further scrutinized in the future.
Reports suggest that Sandeep Ghosh is not fully cooperating with the CBI investigation, and therefore, a polygraph test may be conducted on him today. The CBI has already obtained permission from the court for this test. Ghosh has appeared at the CBI office for questioning for the sixth day in a row, with 11 hours of questioning on Tuesday alone.
The Supreme Court has entrusted the CISF with the responsibility of securing the RG Kar Hospital, and the CISF DIG has already arrived at the hospital.
Meanwhile, in the case of the junior doctor’s rape, doctors across the country continue their strike. They are expected to decide their next course of action after the Supreme Court’s hearing on the case tomorrow. Meetings of doctors’ organizations are ongoing to plan their strategy.
Sources also reveal that ASI Anup Dutta was questioned for nearly eight hours yesterday, and his statements are under investigation. Dutta may be called for further questioning, as the CBI is also looking into his alleged close relationship with the main accused, Sanjay Roy. Roy was hired in 2019 as a civil volunteer for the disaster management group but never worked there. Instead, he began working for the Kolkata Police Welfare Board, and it was Dutta who allowed Roy access to the hospital. On Sunday, the CBI conducted a forensic examination of the police barrack where Sanjay Roy slept after committing the heinous crime, and it was reported that Dutta also slept there.
