In the lead-up to the Haryana Assembly elections, the war of words between Congress and BJP is intensifying. While Congress is targeting BJP on issues like reservation and farmers, Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded to Congress in a rally held in Rewari on Friday (September 27, 2024).

Amit Shah Criticizes Congress on Reservation Issue

Amit Shah accused Congress of engaging in appeasement politics for vote banks. He said, “During Congress’s rule in Haryana, slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ were raised from Hathini to Thanesar. Rahul Gandhi went to America and talked about removing reservations.” He added that BJP has increased the creamy layer limit in reservations.

Shah further stated, “They (Congress) accuse us of ending reservations, but Rahul Gandhi, how will you do that? Our government is in power, and as long as there is even one BJP MP in Parliament, you cannot end reservations.”

“Every Agniveer Will Get a Pension Job”

Amit Shah promised that every Agniveer (soldier in the Agnipath scheme) will be given a pension job. He accused Congress of not respecting the army, reminding people that Congress had once called the Army Chief a “goon.” Shah also claimed that during Congress’s rule in Haryana, the government ran on “cuts, commissions, and corruption,” with power in the hands of dealers, middlemen, and family members. But under the BJP government, such practices have been eliminated.

Shah also took a dig at Rahul Gandhi, saying he was misled by an NGO into thinking that talking about MSP (Minimum Support Price) would win votes. Shah questioned Gandhi’s knowledge about crops like kharif and rabi and accused Congress of lying to farmers. He pointed out that the Haryana BJP government is buying 24 crops on MSP and challenged Congress to name a state where they do the same.

In a final attack on Congress, Shah said, “In Karnataka and Telangana, where your governments are in power, how many crops are you buying at MSP? Farmers used to call Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s government the ‘2 Rupees Compensation Government’ because you sent checks of 2 rupees for damaged crops.”
