On Thursday (August 29), BJP leader and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh received a setback from the Delhi High Court. The court denied Singh’s plea for a hearing on his petition regarding the charges against him by wrestlers. The court questioned why Singh had filed only one petition challenging both the charges and the proceedings against him.
Singh had filed the petition in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, seeking to cancel the FIR and allegations related to the sexual harassment case involving female wrestlers.
According to Bar and Bench, Justice Neena Bansal Krishna asked Singh why he had combined the challenge to the charges and proceedings into a single petition. The judge remarked, “You cannot get a universal order for everything. If you wanted to challenge the charges, you could have done so directly. Once the trial begins, this is an indirect way.”
The Delhi High Court has allowed time to file arguments on the request to dismiss the FIR and charges related to the sexual harassment case. The next hearing is scheduled for September 26.
