Heavy Rainfall Hits Gujarat: 96 Dams on High Alert

Gujarat is experiencing severe rainfall, with the total seasonal rainfall exceeding 100% of the expected amount. The rainfall statistics are as follows: Kutch received 116.79%, North Gujarat 79.99%, Central and East Gujarat 98.78%, Saurashtra 101%, and South Gujarat 108% of the expected rainfall. In the last 24 hours, all 251 talukas in 33 districts have seen rainfall.

Dams and Rivers on High Alert
76 dams in Gujarat are now full, and 96 dams are on high alert. 46 dams have received rainfall between 70% to 100% of their capacity. Additionally, 36 rivers and lakes have overflowed. Due to the heavy rainfall warning, the Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea until August 30.

Machhu-2 Dam Updates
The Machhu-2 Dam has opened 28 gates simultaneously: 18 gates are opened by 15 feet and 10 gates by 5 feet. The dam is receiving 2,16,292 cubic feet of water, and water is being released in the same amount, causing the river to flow at both banks. Alert notices have been issued to the low-lying areas.
