A tragic accident happened in Gujarat when a bridge over the Mahisagar (Mahi) River collapsed. So far, 5 vehicles have fallen into the river and 8 people have died. Some people have been rescued. The bridge was built in 1985. Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered an investigation and sent technical experts to the accident site.
⚠️ Warning Was Given, But Traffic Continued
According to reports, the vehicles that fell include two trucks and a tanker, which was left hanging halfway. The accident caused panic in the area, and rescue operations started immediately.
The bridge was built in 1981 and opened in 1985, but over the years, its condition became very poor. Local MLA Chaitanya Singh Zala had already warned the government and demanded a new bridge. Still, traffic on the old bridge was not stopped.
Now, the government has approved a new bridge project with a cost of ₹212 crore, and the survey work has been completed.
👷 CM Orders Investigation
Due to the seriousness of the accident, CM Bhupendra Patel sent a team of technical experts to investigate the cause. Rescue teams are working to remove vehicles from the river, and divers are recovering bodies.
🏗️ Old Infrastructure Raises Questions Again
This incident has once again raised serious questions about old and weak infrastructure in the country. If traffic had been stopped on time and the new bridge construction had begun earlier, this tragedy could have been avoided.
Now, everyone is waiting to see what the investigation report says and what action is taken against those responsible.
