In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, the Magh Purnima Snan (holy bath) is taking place during the Mahakumbh festival. However, a controversy has erupted over a government advertisement released by the UP government.
The advertisement used the word “Hindusthan”, which has led to strong reactions from opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress.
Opposition Parties’ Objections
- SP leader Ashutosh Verma criticized the BJP and RSS, saying that they are using diversion politics.
- He claimed that the Kumbh Mela is poorly managed, leading to many deaths, and the government is trying to distract people with such propaganda.
Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari also raised concerns.
- He stated that government advertisements should not reflect RSS ideology and questioned the intention behind using the word “Hindusthan”.
BJP’s Response
BJP leader Rakesh Tripathi defended the government.
- He argued that India is known by many names, so there should be no objection.
- He accused the opposition of having a problem with Indian culture.
This controversy has now turned into a political debate, with both sides standing firm on their views.
