In the case of the doctor’s rape and murder, the Calcutta High Court has directed the principal involved to go on long leave. The principal of R.G. Kar Medical College, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, had resigned following protests over the incident, but the Mamata Banerjee government had transferred him to the position of principal at the National Medical College in the same city.
The court noted that doctors are on strike, causing disruption in hospital services and creating problems for patients. This situation is not limited to West Bengal but is affecting the entire country. The court emphasized that the emotions of the doctors must be considered, as one of their colleagues was brutally raped and murdered.
The court also mentioned that a top state official had issued an ultimatum until Sunday, but the court refrained from offering any opinion at this time. The court requested that all parties provide copies to the government lawyer. It was stressed that someone needs to engage in dialogue with the doctors, as their protest is justified given the cruel nature of the incident.
The state government has claimed that a fully transparent investigation is underway, and senior police officials are regularly updating the involved parties. However, the court acknowledged that social media is filled with misinformation.
Amit Malviya, head of the BJP IT cell and co-in-charge of BJP in West Bengal, questioned Mamata Banerjee’s decision to transfer Dr. Ghosh to another prominent institution while the investigation is still ongoing. He expressed concerns on social media, asking why such a controversial figure is being protected unless there is something more to the story. Malviya also highlighted the principal’s past involvement in corruption and irregularities and demanded an explanation from Mamata Banerjee.
The BJP has been demanding a CBI investigation, questioning the intentions and impartiality of the West Bengal government in handling this case.
