In Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, the officers at the Collectorate will now have to work without air conditioners and fans. This is because, following a court order, 17 ACs, 70 fans, printers, and tables and chairs from the Mandsaur Collector’s Office were seized.

This action was taken in the presence of officials. The seized items will be presented in court. The reason behind this action is the failure to pay a compensation amount.

What Led to This Action?

According to lawyer Pankaj Kumar Vaidya, on October 11, 2013, the driver of then-SDM Arjun Singh Thakur’s official vehicle hit Sunil Kumar Ahir and Nirmal Kumar Kamlia, who were standing by the roadside in the village of Bardiya Amra. Both died on the spot in the accident.

During the investigation, it was found that the vehicle was not insured. After the incident, the victims’ families filed a compensation claim.

Court’s Decision in 2016

In 2016, the court ruled in favor of the victims and awarded a compensation amount of ₹50,23,800. When the amount was not paid, the court ordered the seizure of assets.

Items Seized from the Collectorate

Following the court’s order, 17 air conditioners, 70 fans, 12 cupboards, multi-printers, tables, chairs, and a government four-wheeler were seized from the Collector’s office. The action was carried out in the presence of ADM Ekta Jaiswal, Devkumar Solanki, and the Collector Nazir.

According to lawyer Pankaj Vaidya, the seized items are now in their custody and must be presented in court. If this is not done, the officials present during the seizure could face action.
