PM Modi Departs for Poland, Will Also Visit Ukraine and Meet Indian Community

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for a two-day visit to Poland. After this, he will go to war-torn Ukraine for a one-day visit. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in 45 years. It is also the first time that an Indian Prime Minister will visit Ukraine since diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1992. In Warsaw, Poland, PM Modi will receive a formal welcome. He will meet with President Andrzej Sebastian Duda and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Additionally, PM Modi will meet with members of the Indian community living in Poland.

PM Modi Departs for Poland

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) officially announced this visit. In a letter, the PMO quoted Prime Minister Modi saying, “My visit to Poland comes at a time when we are celebrating 70 years of our diplomatic relations. Poland is a major economic partner in Central Europe. Our shared commitment to democracy and pluralism strengthens our relations. I look forward to meeting my friend Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda to further our partnership.”

PM Modi to Visit Ukraine After Poland

After his visit to Poland, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, by train, which will take about 10 hours. In Kyiv, he will discuss bilateral relations in various areas, including politics, trade, economics, investment, education, culture, public relations, humanitarian aid, and more. PM Modi will also meet with Indian students and others living in Ukraine.

First PM Visit to Poland in 45 Years

Foreign Secretary (West) Tanmay Lal mentioned that this visit is very significant as it is the first time in 45 years that an Indian Prime Minister is visiting Poland. This visit is happening as both countries celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations.

Strengthening India-Poland Relations

Lal added that India and Poland share a unique bond that dates back to the 1940s during World War II when over 6,000 Polish women and children took refuge in two Indian princely states, Jamnagar and Kolhapur. It is believed that Prime Minister Modi’s visit will further strengthen the relations between the two countries. Earlier, PM Modi visited Russia, where he was honored with Russia’s highest award.
