The Kolkata rape-murder case has been ongoing for almost a month now, and the investigation is still not resolved. Instead, it seems to be getting more complicated. The day after the incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a woman doctor was raped and murdered, Kolkata Police arrested the accused, Sanjay Roy. After the case was handed over to the CBI, the agency questioned Sanjay, but he claimed he was innocent.
However, the CBI wanted to dig deeper into the case, so they recently conducted a polygraph test on Sanjay. The way Sanjay answered the CBI’s questions during the test has made the case even more complex. This is because evidence places Sanjay at the crime scene, and he initially confessed to the crime to the police. But during the CBI’s polygraph test, his answers were different. Here’s what Sanjay said during the test.

Questions Asked to Sanjay Roy:
The polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, the accused in the Kolkata case, has raised many questions. Polygraph tests usually start with simple questions like name, place of residence, and food preferences. Once the answers begin, bigger questions are asked, usually requiring yes or no answers.
Question 1: Did you rape anyone?
- Answer: No.
Question 2: Were you at the hospital’s seminar hall?
- Answer: Yes, I was.
Question 3: Why did you go there?
- Answer: For work.
Question 4: Was anyone else there?
- Answer: No one was on the third floor.
Question 5: Did you cover her (the victim’s) nose and mouth?
- Answer: Yes.
Question 6: Was anyone with you at that time?
- Answer: No.
Question 7: Tell us clearly, did you rape her or not?
- Answer: No.
Why Has the Kolkata Case Become More Complicated After the Polygraph Test?
Sanjay’s answers during the polygraph test have left the CBI with more questions. If Sanjay admits to the murder but denies the rape, it raises the question of whether someone else sent him there. Although forensic evidence supports that Sanjay committed the heinous crime, his denial of rape during the polygraph test creates doubts.
The CBI has conducted seven polygraph tests in this case, but besides the main accused, Sanjay Roy, no one else has been arrested yet. However, in a related corruption case involving RG Kar Medical College, three people, including Sandeep Ghosh, have been arrested. As a result, the CBI feels that the investigation has become more tangled rather than clearer due to the polygraph test results.
