SC Reserved Judgement on CM Arvind Kejriwal’s Plea: The Supreme Court will deliver its decision on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition for release from custody in the excise policy case on September 13. This petition also requests bail. The decision will be announced by a bench headed by Justice Surya Kant on Friday morning.
Kejriwal, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), challenged the Delhi High Court’s decision from August 5. The High Court had upheld his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and denied his bail petition, citing that Kejriwal had not first approached the lower courts. During the last hearing, the court stated that its decision would be carefully prepared to avoid discouraging the lower judiciary, which contributes to the development of criminal law.
